Dutchman believes Black Cats should have finished higher
Boudewijn Zenden
Boudewijn Zenden believes Sunderland's defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers was symptomatic of the club's disappointing season. The Black Cats lost 2-1 at Molineux on the final day as they chased a top 10 Premier League finish. Sunderland seldom looked in danger of relegation during the campaign, but the Dutchman has been left expecting more from the squad he joined in October last year. "We were fairly good in the first half but the second was flat and we let them back into the game and got ourselves into trouble," he told the club's official website. "It sums up our season. We've had decent results at home but away we haven't been capable of getting a result. "That's why we've finished 13th in the end. To be honest I look back and we should have done better. "The aim for next season is to get our heads together and be confident enough to push on for the top half. "That's where we should be aiming with the quality of players we have at this club and that's why we're disappointed with where we've finished this season." Zenden has signed a contract extension with Sunderland, keeping him at the club for a further year.
