Chelsea wrapped up the Barclays Premier League title in style with a convincing home win against Wigan Athletic.
Nicolas Anelka settled any nerves by putting the leaders in front after just six minutes and the match and title race were effectively settled on 32 minutes when Gary Caldwell was sent off as the Latics conceded a penalty.
With so much at stake, Frank Lampard insisted on taking it even though Didier Drogba was neck-and-neck with Wayne Rooney in the race for the Barclays Golden Boot. Lampard scored and Chelsea ran riot after the break.
Salomon Kalou netted on 52 minutes to chalk up a new Premier League record. It was Chelsea's 98th goal of the season, beating the 97 scored by Manchester United in 1999/2000.
Anelka grabbed his second two minutes later. Drogba did edge in front of Rooney when he scored Chelsea's fifth on 63 minutes to bring up the century of goals and when the Blues got a second penalty five minutes later, Lampard allowed Drogba to take and he scored off a post.
Drogba completed his hat-trick and secured the Barclays Golden Boot 10 minutes from time and Chelsea wrapped up the title in style with an eighth goal through Ashley Cole in the final minute.
